Conversations on the European Fiscal-Military System: Northern Europe

The European Fiscal-Military System project, funded by the ERC, transforms the conventional narrative of the violent rise of the European states system by revealing how belligerent competition also involved cooperation. States’ emergence was co-dependent and entailed developing ways to obtain war-making resources from beyond their jurisdictions.

In the first of two sets of conversations, Aaron Graham, Cathleen Sarti and Jeannette Kamp explore the Northern-European part of this system, discussing the role of London, Amsterdam and the Baltic as key hubs for the transfer of resources ranging from money to munitions, as well as the often shady individuals involved.

This seminar will be held online. To register your interest and submit any questions in advance, please email by Tuesday June 2nd.
